Switchgrass is a crop that’s usually grown in order to be harvested and turned into pellets to feed cattle or horses. It is a good crop for this because of its fast growth, and the fact that it is highly drought-resistant.  Ethanol is actually a by-product of switchgrass, also.

The University of Tennessee is looking into pelletizing switchgrass for use in wood pellet stoves. Read more about switchgrass here.
