What Exactly Are Wood Pellet Stoves?

Posted: Announcement – 7:12 pm

Wood Pellet Stoves are a new and very popular way as a means to provide heat. Pellet stoves burn wood pellets as a primary source of heat. Wood pellets are generally made from sawdust, coming from sawmills, recycling centers, furniture manufacturers, etc. They are very tightly compacted enabling them to be burned very efficiently and in turn produce a high source of heat. Since the wood pellets are usually varying in size from a half up to an inch, and somewhat lightweight, they are very easy to transport. Wood pellets can be purchased for about $1.00 per 10lbs. Also, since they are actually made from wood, they are very environmentally friendly.

Wood pellet stoves are generally freestanding stoves specifically designed to burn wood pellets, however pellet inserts can be purchased to allow your standard wood-burning fireplace to burn wood pellets. Each wood pellet stove and pellet insert contains a “hopper” which can hold anywhere from 30 to 130lbs of wood pellets. Each stove also has a fan to vent all gases outside. You can even install certain stoves and fireplaces in such a way to replace your old source of heat, whether it is gas or electric, and use them to heat the whole house. These are known as pellet furnaces. With the cost of gas and electricity continuing to go up, pellet stoves and fireplaces continue to gain popularity, and are a much more efficient and environmentally friendly alternative.

Pellet Furnace

Posted: September 19, 2009 – 9:09 pm

With fall rapidly approaching, we need to look ahead to how we can save a little money on our heating costs for the upcoming months. One way is with tradition wood pellet stoves and pellet inserts. However, there is a way to take it once step further. That way is with a pellet furnace.

Pellet furnaces act the same way as wood pellet stoves and pellet inserts. They burn the same wood pellets, but generally have larger hoppers than stoves, some can hold up to 350 lbs. They also are not as “cosmetically appealing” as wood pellet stoves and pellet inserts; they tend to be a little more commercial-looking, and usually end up in your mechanical room or outside.

A pellet furnace can be tied into your existing ductwork and also can be used to heat your water. They are capable of producing 60,000 btu’s or more. You can then install a wall thermostat to control it. When your pellet level runs low, a red light will blink on this thermostat. Everything is automated, so after you fill the hopper with pellets, when it calls for heat, it will automatically feed the pellets into the burner.

There are many pellet furnaces that not only burn wood pellets, they also will burn corn. This can be perfect for people on farms or live in a farming community, where corn may be very abundant. Pellet furnaces are every bit as efficient as wood pellet stoves and pellet inserts, but are for people looking to heat the entire house, instead of one area.

Here’s some pellet furnaces to check out:

Wood Pellet Stove Season Is Almost Here.

Posted: September 7, 2009 – 1:20 pm

Well, here we are, in September already. If you’re like me, you feel that the summer just flew by. Kind of a mild one for us in the Midwest, I hardly turned the A/C on at all. Hopefully that doesn’t mean we have a nasty fall and winter ahead of us. If it does, many of us know the answer to that problem: wood pellet stoves! If you need to know any information about pellet burning stoves and pellet inserts, you’ve come to the right place. I’ll be posting some new information regarding these, including some videos and also some great news on tax rebates for buying them.

So don’t despair, throw another bunch of pellets in the stove, grab a cup of cocoa, coffee, tea,  or whatever, and save some money on your heating bills!
